Paul Bayliss

A Midland clairvoyant named Paul Bayliss, who used to be a bodybuilder, has been charged with sexually abusing a child and sentenced to 14 years in prison. Bayliss used to give readings to believers who were young in age in the back of his car.

One of Bayliss’ victims has come forward and decided to speak about the torment he suffered for years at the hands of the perverted spiritualist.

The 26-year-old victim was only a teenager when Bayliss took advantage of him. He states that he has tried to do away with his morbid revenge ideas by attending counseling-it didn’t work.

“The only spirits he saw were in a bottle,” says the victim.

“I spent years thinking about killing him and, yes, I wish he was dead. I wanted to kill him myself. I hope that what he did to me is done to him in prison. He robbed me of my childhood, no doubt.”

“Half of the stuff I’ve managed to get rid of, but there’s always going to be something there. It’s something that sticks with you, and still burns.”

56-year-old Bayliss was found guilty of four rapes and five assaults on a minor last month at Warwick Crown Court.

Aside from his long stay in prison, he will be listed for the rest of his life on the sex offender’s register.

Bayliss, who is a father of three, first had trial at Stafford Crown Court in March but he always insisted that he was a sexual invalid due to a chronic back injury and the jury was never able to reach a decision.

They retried him last month at the Leamington Spa and here the jury took two days to deliberate before finding him guilty.

Though he was protected from having to come face-to-face with his abuser, the victim (who is a father himself) was able to give evidence in both court trials.

“When I heard the verdict, I was over the moon, well and truly over the moon,” he says. “I had the biggest grin on my face. I was dreading the phone call saying he had been found not guilty.”

“But he’ll never admit what he’s done. Who’s going to admit to being a pedophile?”

Bayliss took advantage of the victim from the time he was 13 until the age of 16. The abuse began as an innocent plea from Bayliss asking the victim to rub his aching back and the victim fell prey to his pleas. It quickly escalated from there.

“I’d try to push him off, but he was too strong. I was just a boy. He’d always warn me not to tell anyone.”

“I used to be a happy, chatty kid and ended up as someone with no confidence at all,” he said.

“The only time I was happy was when I was riding my bike.”

Being constantly abused developed anger issues in him and he was expelled from school at one point for assaulting another student.

After his expulsion from school, he turned to cannabis, cocaine, and a life of petty crime.

Suicide attempts have been a part of the victim’s young life after that point.

He even states that Bayliss even offered his assistance in ending it all for him at one point.

“I’d had enough and just wanted to die. Bayliss told me, ‘If you want to do it, do it right’. He put a rope round my beck and attached it to a gable. Afterwards I had the marks around my neck.”

The victim, who is from Lichfield and works in the motor industry, admits to having sick and twisted revenge thoughts from time to time: “I still think about sticking him in the back of a van and super gluing him to a chair, ripping out his nails and teeth. Gouging out his eyes, cutting off his fingers. That is how much I hate the man.”

The victim, who due to the nature of the crime and the age it happened at has his identity protected by law, has only seen his abuser twice since the age of 16.

“Once, I was on my motorbike and everything went through my head. In the blink of an eye, I went from 40 mph to 140 mph,” he admits.

“The second time I was walking through Lichfield town centre and there he was.”

The victim decided he couldn’t take it anymore and gathered up enough courage to speak to the police about what happened about two years ago. He had been haunted by his horrible childhood for far too long and decided he needed justice.

He states that the Staffordshire police department have been amazing, Detective Constable John Wincott especially so.

As much as he thought having Bayliss convicted and locked up would bring him closure, he says that it has not unfortunately.

“He’ll be out in seven years and that is nowhere near long enough,” he says. “I keep on wondering if there are more victims out there. I remember him as smug, and he was smug in court. To him, money was everything.”

“Fourteen years seems like a long time, but he’s given me a lifetime of pain and anger. That sentence won’t come to an end.”
