A self-proclaimed psychic couple from Fort Collins, Colorado is being accused of scamming a woman out of $37,000 during her time of weakness. The woman had just broken up with her boyfriend and was very upset and distressed at the time of her consult with them.

Married couple Gina and Steven Marks were both arrested on March 1st by Fort Collins police. They are each being charged with Class 4 felony theft, as well as felony counts of identity theft and financial crimes against Gina.

According to police, Gina and Steven persuaded the victim to purchase “mystical” crystals from them and to also give them Target gift cards. Records show that Gina later used those gift cards to buy home goods and electronics.

Police wrote in Gina’s arrest affidavit that the victim of this scam initially met Gina, 38, for a palm reading. She had just broken up with her boyfriend and was “questioning several aspects of her life”. At the time of the initial consultation, Gina told the woman that she needed to burn orange candles before bed every night and that after about the sixth or seventh night, she would “dream about the person she was to be with”.

After following Gina’s suggestion and nothing happening, the woman consulted with Gina again for a follow up tarot card reading. It was then that Gina and her husband assured the victim that they would keep working with her until she found her soul mate. They bilked her for thousands of dollars before the woman realized what was happening and contacted the police.

The identity of the woman is being withheld due to the sensitive nature of the case as well as the fact that this is an ongoing investigation.
