Psychic In South Florida Accused Of Conning Woman Out Of More Than $30,000
Police have arrested a South Florida psychic who allegedly persuaded a woman that she had a curse on her in order to con her out of more than $30,000 over the course of several years.
22-year-old Peaches Mitchell was arrested in Palm Beach County this past week and is now facing grand theft and obtaining property over $20,000 by fraud charges, according to authorities.
Mitchell has since been released on bond.
The arrest warrant states that Mitchell, who also went as Psychic Sarah, first encountered the victim on the streets of New York City in 2010. The affidavit says that the fraudulent psychic reached out to the woman and told her that she was sensing a “special energy “from her and that she had a feeling something bad was happening to her.
Mitchell was in luck because it turned out that the woman was going through a very tough time. She had been discharged from Army Officer Candidate School after years of struggling with a chronic injury and was in the midst of a very emotionally taxing divorce on top of that.
According to private investigator Bob Nygaard, the victim saw Mitchell on a regular basis for about three years before she figured out that she was being ripped off and taken advantage of.
“Peaches reeled her into her web of deceit,” says Nygaard. “She told the alleged victim there was a curse on her and that her stepmother had placed a curse on her.”
When the victim realized what Mitchell was doing to her, she hired Nygaard to track and bring down the scamming psychic. Unfortunately, she had already given her tens of thousands of dollars, as well as a Cartier watch worth $7,800.
“Peaches allegedly defrauded this victim of approximately $32,000. And a very nice Cartier watch,” said Nygaard.
According to the warrant, the scam has left the victim “financially devastated”.
