Madison, Wis.- A person who considers himself a psychic tipped off Madison police department and this tip lead to the arrest of two people who were wanted on charges of theft on Tuesday.

According to Madison police, the man called the department dispatcher and told them he was a psychic and wanted to someone to come to the scene of what he considered a “suspicious situation” in the parking lot of a hotel at 12:38 am. The ‘psychic’ told the police that there was a white car in the parking lot and that there was some kind of conspiracy happening around it. He told them that the people coming and going from the vehicle had a very strange ‘aura’ around them and that he felt they were connected to sinful individuals.

When officers arrived at the Red Roof Inn, they located the vehicle that the psychic had specifically pointed out to them and learned that it had been reported as stolen. The report states that Alexandra K. Scola and Andrew M.R. Matie, both 25-years-old, were using the stolen car and both had warrants against them for a chain of recent crimes.

According to the report, Scola was found inside a room and officers chased down Matie outside of the hotel.

Police revealed that Scola allegedly stole $2,200 worth of jeans from West Towne Mall’s Boston Store on two different dates, November 17th and 23rd. She is also accused of trying to steal more jeans on the Monday before she was found, $700 worth this time. However, a store employee who stopped her as she tried to walk out the store with the jeans thwarted this robbery. She dropped the items and jumped into a white car that was waiting for her.

The male, Matie is being accused of exchanging the stolen jeans for cash at a thrift shop. He’s also suspected of stealing a purse from a Olive Garden in East Towne on Sunday morning and using a credit card from the purse to purchase ten packs of cigarettes from a nearby gas station, the police say.

The police had the white car towed away with plans to search it for evidence of any other crimes they may have committed.

Joel DeSpain, the spokesman for the Madison police department said that Scola and Matie were both arrested on the spot.

“While investigators could not corroborate the self-proclaimed psychic’s elaborate conspiracy theory, they were very happy to get the crime tip, just the same,” said DeSpain.

Scola was arrested on two counts of felony retail theft, attempted felony retail theft, suspicion of identity theft, and various other warrants, said police.

Matie was arrested on suspicion of felony bail jumping, party to a crime of felony retail theft, a burglary warrant, resisting, and suspicion of identity theft.
